The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) has contained a fire that damaged several shops in Mushin and recovered a container-laden truck that obstructed traffic at Cappa Bus Stop, with no casualties recorded in either incident.

The agency said the fire broke out on Monday night at Oduselu Street, Itire Road, opposite a CAC church, after a suspected power surge ignited the blaze in shops housed in a bungalow building.

LASEMA’s Eagle Response Team from Cappa was deployed following a distress call and worked with the agency’s Response Unit Fire Team and the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service to extinguish the fire.

The teams also carried out dampening-down operations to prevent a recurrence and stop the flames from spreading to neighbouring buildings and properties.

The agency said no deaths or injuries were recorded. Officers of the Nigeria Police Force and the Lagos State Ambulance Service were also present to support the response.

In a separate operation earlier on Monday, LASEMA recovered a Mack truck conveying a 20-foot container after a mechanical fault left it stranded at Cappa Bus Stop, inward Cappa, disrupting traffic.

The agency’s Eagle Response Team worked with the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority to divert vehicles while recovery efforts were underway.

LASEMA deployed its heavy-duty recovery equipment, Super Metro, to remove the truck from the road and move it safely to a lay-by, restoring the free flow of traffic in the area.

The agency’s Permanent Secretary, Dr Olufemi Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu, said the Lagos State Government remained committed to protecting lives and property through prompt emergency response and disaster management.

LASEMA urged residents to report emergencies through its toll-free lines, 767 and 112.

The agency said all operations had been concluded and the response teams had returned to base.
