Niger Government has expressed sadness over the fatal road accident along the Minna–Bida Road, clarifying that the vehicle involved was not part of Gov. Mohammed Umaru Bago convoy.

Mr Obed Nana, Commissioner for Information and Orientation, made this known in a statement issued in Minna on Wednesday.

He said the government extended its heartfelt condolences to the families, relations and friends of the deceased.

Nana said the government deeply regretted the loss of lives and sympathised with all those affected by the tragedy.

He explained that contrary to reports linking the incident to the governor’s convoy, the driver involved was a Government House staff member returning from a trip with other staff members.

The commissioner said the government regretted the circumstances surrounding the accident and stressed the need for motorists to prioritise road safety.

He urged media organisations and members of the public to verify information before publication, particularly reports linking incidents to the governor and the government.

The commissioner said the government remained committed to the welfare and safety of residents and called on motorists to obey traffic regulations, exercise caution and demonstrate responsibility on the roads.

He reiterated the government’s sympathy with the bereaved families and prayed that God would grant the deceased eternal rest and comfort their loved ones.

He also prayed for strength for the families to bear the irreparable loss.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that four people were reportedly killed in a road accident involving staff of Labspace Innovation Hub who were travelling to the Federal University of Technology, Minna (FUT Minna), on Monday.
