The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has predicted a major electoral upset in Anambra State in 2027, claiming its presidential candidate, Peter Obi, could defeat Governor Chukwuma Soludo's preferred political camp by up to two million votes.

The party's Anambra State Campaign Coordinator, Ifeanyi Ibezi, made the prediction during the inauguration of its 2027 campaign council in Awka.

Ibezi, a former member of the House of Representatives, said the party was confident of securing victory in Anambra and other parts of the country during the January 16, 2027 general election.

He projected that Obi would win Anambra by between 1.5 million and two million votes, expressing confidence that the former governor's popularity would translate into overwhelming support at the polls.

According to him, Obi's growing appeal across religious, ethnic and regional boundaries has given the NDC a strong electoral advantage.

He compared the presidential candidate's popularity to that of Nigeria's first President, Dr Nnamdi Azikiwe, and former Premier of Eastern Nigeria, Dr Michael Okpara.

Ibezi also claimed that Obi and his running mate, Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso, had secured the support of more than 70 per cent of Nigerian voters ahead of the election.

He warned the All Progressives Congress against relying on electoral malpractice, insisting that the NDC would resist attempts to manipulate the process.

"The NDC is committed to an open, fair and credible election," he said, adding that the party would frustrate any attempt by political opponents or their agents to undermine the process.

He described Anambra as a strong democratic state, expressing confidence that voters would support the party's candidates from the presidential to legislative elections.

The NDC state chairman, Ikem Uzoezie, who inaugurated the campaign council, urged members to begin aggressive grassroots mobilisation through door-to-door campaigns and voter sensitisation.

He charged the campaign team to work towards securing victory for all the party's candidates in the 2027 elections.
