The Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, has provided vehicles to eight Zamfara State House of Assembly members who recently returned to the All Progressives Congress (APC), as efforts to unite the party gather momentum ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The gesture followed a reconciliation process reportedly facilitated by President Bola Tinubu after the lawmakers met with him at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
The legislators had earlier resigned from the APC amid disagreements over internal party affairs, security challenges in rural communities and alleged non-payment of their allowances and entitlements.
They were also embroiled in a prolonged dispute with the leadership of the state assembly and were suspended over an alleged attempt to remove the Speaker.
The lawmakers had been tipped to join the African Democratic Congress before announcing their return to the APC, saying their grievances were being addressed through the reconciliation process.
Matawalle, a former Zamfara governor, reportedly directed the immediate release of the vehicles to support the lawmakers’ transportation needs and political activities in their constituencies.
Presenting the vehicles, the Managing Director of the Nigeria Agricultural Insurance Corporation, Yazid Shehu Danfulani, said the gesture reflected Matawalle’s commitment to reconciliation, unity and political understanding among APC stakeholders in the state.
Responding on behalf of his colleagues, Aliyu Ango Kagara thanked the minister and pledged their support for Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027.
The eight lawmakers are Aliyu Kagara, Ibrahim Tukur, Faruk Dosara, Bashir Masama, Muktaru Kaura, Nasiru Abdullahi, Bashar Bello and Bashar Aliyu.
Their return is expected to strengthen the APC’s position in Zamfara, where political divisions have persisted among key party figures, including Matawalle and former governor Abdul’aziz Yari.
However, Nasiru Abdullahi, who represents Maru North, has reportedly been screened to contest his legislative seat on the ADC platform, raising questions about the extent of the lawmakers’ return to the APC.
