The Lagos State Government has informed the public that traffic will be diverted on Independence Bridge in Lagos Island as the Federal Ministry of Works begins urgent repairs.

The asphalt works on the bridge are scheduled to commence on Friday, October 16, 2026, at night; continue on Saturday, October 17, 2026, day and night; and be completed on Sunday, 18th October, 2026, day and night.

Traffic management plans to help motorists navigate during the repair works on the bridge's inbound and outbound lanes include partially closing each section at a time, with a lane open for motorists to access their destinations.

Motorists are urged to plan their journeys and use alternative routes to reach their destinations during the repairs.

Officers of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) will be on the ground to manage vehicle movement and minimise inconvenience.

Motorists are implored to remain patient, obey traffic laws, and cooperate fully with the interventions made available.
