Security has been tightened along the Bukuru Expressway in Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State after gunmen attacked a vehicle carrying traders returning from a market, leaving seven people injured.

The traders were travelling from Kara Market, Bukuru, on Sunday when the attackers opened fire on their vehicle around 4:30 pm, according to the Plateau State Police Command.

The command said the injured victims were taken to the Military Clinic, Rukuba Barracks, where they were receiving medical treatment.

“The Plateau State Police Command has received with deep concern the report of a shooting incident,” the police spokesman, SP Alfred Alabo, said in a statement on Monday.

Following the attack, the Commissioner of Police, Ayodeji Faniyan, directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of investigations to lead efforts to identify and arrest those responsible.

The command said tactical and anti-robbery teams had also been deployed to the area to strengthen security and prevent further attacks.

“Intelligence has been stepped up to identify and arrest the perpetrators,” the statement said.

The police condemned the attack and urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities through the command’s emergency lines.

The command said further updates would be provided as the investigation progresses.
