Authorities of the Federal Capital Territory Command of the Nigeria Police Force has debunked claim that officers of the command attacked protesters at Utako Market on Monday, October 1st, 2024.

The Command in a statement issued and signed by its Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, categorically denied the narrative, tagging it completely false and misleading.

According to the statement, acting on intelligence, the operatives only took measures to forestall some miscreants, who were taking advantage of the protest to loot shops in the market and as a result, extended focus to them.

It added that as a responsible agency, police could not stand by and allow traders to be robbed of their hard-earned money and belongings without intervening.

The Command therefore, urged the populace to disregard such misleading and mischievous information, as the command is committed to ensuring the safety of the populace in the exercise of their civil rights.
