The political climate in Rivers State is beginning to heat up ahead of the 2027 general elections. This is as the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, sent a strong signal to traditional rulers, urging them to remain neutral as political activities gather momentum.

Speaking during a visit to the Palace of the Amanayabo of Okochiri Kingdom King Ateke Tom, the Minister insisted that while the palace remains a symbol of authority, the game of politics must be left to the actors.

Speaking of the political situation in the state, the FCT minister who identifies as an Ijaw man by affinity, used the opportunity to thank the people of Okrika for their steadfast support during recent political crises in the state.
