The Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence, Alhaji Sa'ad Abubakar, has urged politicians not to negatively weaponise politics.
The monarch made the remarks during a meeting with the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council, led by Director General Senator Abubakar Yari.
The meeting marked the campaign's first outing, described as a tactical grassroots political campaign and consultative process with traditional and religious leaders across the country.
It was the first stop after a massive prayer session by more than 1,000 Islamic clerics held last week for the DG.
Addressing the council, the Sultan said, “Politics is a game of numbers, not of death. In politics, what you need is people. We must not weaponise politics in a negative way. Insecurity is everybody’s problem. You can never eradicate poverty. You can reduce it. You can never eradicate insecurity. But you can reduce it."
In his remarks, Yari said, “We believe in justice. President Tinubu has achieved a lot, and we can demonstrate that. We have a lot to showcase.“
The consultative rounds will span the six geopolitical zones, with Yari expected to deploy his full arsenal to mobilise over 20 million Nigerians to vote for President Tinubu in 2027.
