Commercial motorcycle operators in Udu local government area of Delta state have called on the Delta state government to shelve the idea of the proposed ban on commercial motorcycles popularly known as Okada, as banning it will be a major problem in fending for their family.

The operators made this known while speaking with Galaxy news in Udu which is one of the only communities in the state yet to be affected by the ban.

Speaking on the proposed ban, an operator and the union secretary said there is a high rate of unemployment in the state.

Other operators who spoke said using commercial motorcycles is their only means of livelihood in the community.

The Delta state government had five years ago ban commercial motorcycles operating in Asaba and Warri over the high rate of crime, while the new police commissioner Adeyinka Adeleke has also read the riot act to operators in the state.
