About 853 bags of expired rice and 395 kegs of imported vegetable oil
have been seized by the Oyo and Osun command of the Nigeria Customs
service.

The duty value of the rice is put at over #14 million while that of
the vegetable oil worth #3 million.

It will be recalled that the command had over the weekend, destroyed
over 175 cartoons of poultry products and fish seized from smugglers
along the Ibadan-Ife highway, at the Akinyele dumping site.

The Customs Area Comptroller, Udo  Aka while speaking with Journalists in Ibadan disclosed that the his men had on 15th of this month along Ife-Ibadan highway seized a 12
tyre DAF with 50kg bags of smuggled foreign rice that had expired.

He maintained that the smugglers took advantage of the recent mass
deployment of officers and men of the Nigeria Customs service to
indulge in their unwholesome activities with the belief that the
customs will be cut off guard.

Udo Aka  assured that his men will continue to exhibit high level of
professionalism in the discharge of their constitutional duties noting
that the law that prohibit importation of rice through land borders is
very much in force and must be complied with.
