The Bauchi State Police Command has reported four rape cases within three days, including the alleged sexual assault of three girls aged between 10 and 12, raising fresh concerns about the safety of vulnerable residents.
The incidents were reported between October 8 and 10 in Ningi, Shira, Katagum and Bauchi metropolis. The fourth victim was a 20-year-old woman described by police as having an intellectual disability.
The police spokesperson, SP Nafiu Habib, said four suspects had been arrested in connection with the cases, with investigations ongoing.
In the Ningi case, Habib said a father from Gadar Maiwa village reported on October 9 that his 10-year-old daughter had allegedly been sexually assaulted by a 50-year-old neighbour, identified as Musa Ibrahim, also known as Musa Fawa.
According to the police, the suspect allegedly lured the girl into a guinea corn farm behind their homes.
“The victim was evacuated to General Hospital Ningi for medical examination, which confirmed sexual assault,” Habib said.
He added that the suspect had been arrested and confessed to the offence.
In another case reported on October 9, a father from Unguwar Makafi, Azare, accused 20-year-old Yakubu Musa of sexually assaulting his 11-year-old daughter.
Habib said the suspect allegedly lured the girl into an empty classroom at Bakoshi Primary School, Azare, on separate occasions in September and October.
“The victim was said to have been rushed to General Hospital Azare for medical examination. The suspect has been arrested and has confessed to the offence,” the police spokesperson said.
In Shira Local Government Area, a father from Dago village reported on October 8 that a 40-year-old resident, identified as Abdullahi Sule, had allegedly sexually assaulted his 12-year-old daughter.
Police investigations reportedly indicated that the suspect had allegedly lured the girl on about four occasions, giving her N500 each time.
Habib said the girl had been rescued and taken for medical care, while the suspect was arrested.
The fourth case was reported on October 10, when a couple accused 55-year-old John Madaki of allegedly sexually assaulting their 20-year-old daughter, whom police described as having an intellectual disability.
The police said the suspect allegedly lured the woman with N1,000 before the assault.
“He was arrested while the victim was taken to Police Clinic Bauchi for medical examination,” Habib said.
The command said the cases were being investigated.
