The Plateau Youth Council (PYC) has advised the governorship and other candidates vying for various political positions in the state to prioritise inclusive governance if elected in 2027.
Mr Panan Dapar, the Chairman of PYC, gave that advice on Tuesday in Jos.
Dapar spoke at an event organised to validate a Charter of Demand it developed ahead of the forthcoming general elections.
He said that the initiative was in collaboration with an NGO, Youth Initiative Against Violence and Human Rights Abuse (YIAVHA).
The chairman explained that the charter reflected the yearnings and aspirations of the people, particularly youths, women, and Persons with Disabilities in the state.
He insisted that the Charter aimed to ensure inclusive governance in the state.
“This Charter reflects the collective aspirations and priorities of young people in Plateau.
“It serves as an actionable advocacy tool to strengthen youth meaningful participation in decision-making, governance, peacebuilding and sustainable development across the state,” he said.
Dapar said the charter covered peace, security and social cohesion; inclusive governance; and youth participation in elections and democratic engagement.
He said that other areas covered included economic empowerment and livelihoods, gender, disability and marginalised youth inclusion.
Speaking, Mr Jacob Pwakim, the Executive Director of YIAVHA, said the initiative is part of its“Building Bridges” project.
He said that the project is supported by the Strengthening Peace and Resilience in Nigeria (SPRiNG) and funded by the UK Government.
Pwakim, who commended PYC for developing the document, described the initiative as an agenda-setting process.
