The Association of Patent and Proprietary Medicine Dealers, APPMED, has declared that the majority of Nigerian families are feeling the devastating effects of malaria infection.
APPMED President, Comrade Kubiat Akpan, made this declaration while adopting the Federal Government supported Malaria Initiative among youth in Secondary schools and Tertiary Institutions in Nigeria during a public enlightenment campaign on malaria.
Akpan explained that, as medicine dealers, they see the devastating impact of malaria on families every single day stressing that malaria is a public health challenge that requires the intervention of all and sundry.
He added that individuals, groups and organisations should support the fight against malaria to reduce its prevalence to the barest minimum
Akpan then used the opportunity to pledge that members of the association across the country would continue to strive to tackle the prevalence of malaria in the country.
According to him, When align community health practitioners with the passion of the youth, malaria will have no hiding place in Nigeria.
The Team lead for the project, Prince Cletus Ilobanafor, said the initiative was designed to move malaria advocacy beyond conventional approaches by placing young Nigerians at the centre of grassroots action.
He said that every single life lost to malaria is a stolen future, a lost leader, and a blow to the nation’s progress, hence the need for collective efforts from all stakeholders.
