Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde has declared that the premises of a telecommunication company where 63 staff have tested positive to COVID-19 remain closed until further notice.

The firm which operates in a building in the Dugbe central business district of the capital city is a personnel outsourcing firm operating customer centre for two major telecommunication companies – MTN and Airtel.

Fifty-seven of its staff had tested positive to COVID-19, following a series of tests.

The Company had in a statement issued in Ibadan yesterday declared that it has implemented strict COVID-19 pandemic preventive measures including social distancing norms, embarked on awareness campaigns for employees, mandatory use of sanitizer and masks, temperature checks, and general health checks at the in-house clinic based on World Health Organization (WHO) guidelines.

The Governor says the company remains shut and would be decontaminated adding that the Emergency Operations Centre has intensive contact tracing to identify persons of interest linked to members of staff in the company.

Makinde, in a fresh tweet, disclosed that the COVID-19 confirmation tests for six suspected cases came back positive adding that all six cases are from the same organisation, a telecommunication company in Ibadan South West Local Government Area.

The total number of confirmed cases in Oyo State is 143.
