The Rotary Club of Ibadan City Central on Tuesday vaccinated 40 pupils of Oke-Bola Community Development Nursery and Primary School, Ibadan, alongside other children in the community against polio.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the club organised the vaccination to commemorate the 2026 World Polio Day.
The club’s president, Alhaja Halimat Omotosho, urged parents and guardians to ensure their children aged five and below receive vaccinations to protect them against polio, which she described as dangerous.
She said achieving a polio-free world required collective efforts of all stakeholders.
“We appeal to all parents and guardians to vaccinate their children. Together we can end polio,” Omotosho said.
The president highlighted Rotary’s commitment to improving lives and addressing societal challenges through humanitarian service and community engagement.
She reaffirmed the club’s guiding principle: “Service Above Self”, which she said reflected dedication to serving communities and making a positive difference in people’s lives.
Narrating her experience, Mrs Abidemi Ibiyode, a victim of polio on the left leg, said she was affected at the age of three.
Ibiyode, who is now 44 years old, said that her husband divorced her because he could no longer endure the stigmatisation of marrying a disabled person.
She, however, thanked God and her parents for caring for her as a single mother.
Ibiyode urged parents to vaccinate their children against polio and other infections.
