Nigeria Ranks Highest in Casualties From Road Accidents

Nigeria ranks one of the highest in the number of injuries and deaths from road accidents recording 33.7% of every 100,000 people involved in road crashes.

This was revealed Thursday in Abuja at a press briefing organized by the Nigerian Building and Road Research Institute (NBBRI) to sensitize the public on its forthcoming international conference.

Speaking to newsmen at the event, the director General of NBBRI, Professor Danladi Matawal disclosed that countries in Europe range between 3 – 7 % and Africa records an average of 24.1%.

He further explained that the Institute is partnering with relevant government agencies to address the issue of substandard roads and building constructions leading to many deaths and lost of properties.

Meanwhile, professor Matawal also stated that there have been significant reductions in the cases of building collapse across the country with the Federal Capital Territory recording 0% collapse since 2013.

He however warned the general public, coporate organizations and Government agencies to desist from patronizing unrecognized engineers and must always insist on getting quality services as part of measures to avoid more losts through poorly constructed roads and buildings across the country.
