Fire outbreak destroys property worth millions

Three months after fire outbreak occurred at Sabon Gari market three months, a similar incident took place at the Singer market in Kano where properties worth millions were destroyed.

During ‎plenary on Tuesday, Senators were worried at the continuous loss of merchandise and properties in many commodity markets in the country.

Kano in particular, to fire disasters had reached a worrisome level that requires urgent measures to combat the trend.

‎ While expressing regrets over the increasing rate of fire disasters in markets across the country the law-maker advised the management of markets across the country to always employ modern means of preventing and combating fire disasters to ensure that traders are not subjected to harrowing loss.

The Nigerian Senate also advised government at all levels to rescue Sabon Gari market traders by providing them with grants to contribute to the nation's Gross Domestic Product.

The senate however called on government to support in every way the affected traders to rebuild their shops.

‎While ruling on the motion, the Senate President, Bukola Saraki, advised all the regulatory agencies to enforce modern means of preventing and combating fire disasters to ensure that traders are not subjected to this kind of distressing loss.
