British police have arrested a man on suspicion of murder after he was extradited from Turkey over the fatal shooting of Nigerian Abayomi ‘Junior’ Ajose and another man in Manchester in 2020.

The 36-year-old suspect was brought to England on Saturday and met by officers at Stansted Airport, Greater Manchester Police said on Sunday. He remains in custody as detectives continue their investigation.

Ajose, 36, and Cheriff Tall, 21, were killed in the early hours of June 21, 2020, at a party attended by about 400 people in Moss Side, south Manchester.

The gathering reportedly took place in a car park near a block of flats, hours after a Black Lives Matter protest.

Detective Chief Inspector Neil Higginson said the arrest reflected the police’s determination to bring those responsible to justice.

“This arrest demonstrates our unwavering commitment to securing justice for Junior and Cheriff and their loved ones,” he said.

Higginson said investigators had spent the past six years executing search warrants, analysing evidence, examining seized devices and pursuing leads in an effort to identify those responsible.

While describing the arrest as a significant development, he stressed that the investigation was continuing.

Police are urging people who attended the party and have not yet spoken to investigators to come forward with information.

“The smallest piece of information could prove to be vital,” Higginson said.

Greater Manchester Police said a £50,000 reward remained available for information that could lead to the identification and conviction of those responsible for the killings.

Anyone with information has been asked to contact the force on 0161 856 3691, quoting incident number 221 of June 21, 2020.
