Nigerian artist Segun Johnson recently voiced his thoughts on the evolving definition of wealth amid today's economic challenges.
In an interview, he reflected on a time when ₦30 million was considered enough to be a millionaire, noting that perceptions have shifted significantly over time.
He added that, by contemporary standards, having ₦100 million no longer automatically makes you a millionaire.
“Back then in those days, if you have 30 million, you are actually a millionaire. In this present age, if you don’t have $1 million, you are broke, you are not a millionaire. That’s the truth,” he said.
Segun emphasised that people often misunderstand financial standards, noting that having one million naira no longer automatically makes someone a millionaire.
“The fact that you have 100 million doesn’t make you a millionaire,” he added.
The singer humorously pointed out that having ₦1 million might be seen as wealthy in certain circles, yet emphasized that there are still significant financial milestones to reach.
“But you might be a millionaire among people in Ojota, or probably people in Oworonshoki,” he said.
