Nollywood actress Eniola Ajao has responded to film critic Tolu Fagbure after he questioned her acting ability and described her delivery as “plastic.”
Fagbure made the remarks during an interview on Agbaletu, where he discussed Ajao’s acting career and her 2024 film, Beast of Two Worlds: Ajakaju.
The critic said he did not believe Ajao had a place in cinema, arguing that her appearance was her major advantage while questioning her acting talent and skill.
“She has a fine face, plastic delivery,” Fagbure said, adding that he did not think she had the talent required for acting.
When asked whether his assessment was too harsh, Fagbure maintained that it was simply his personal opinion, saying, “My opinion is not sacrosanct; my opinion is not the end.”
Ajao later responded to the criticism in a post on X, seemingly dismissing the suggestion that her looks were the main reason for her career.
“Ahhh, so my fine face is the only thing carrying me? After all these years?” she wrote.
The actress said she would continue to focus on her work, improve her craft, and let audiences form their own opinions.
“I will just keep doing what I know how to do: work, grow and let the audience decide. After all, opinions are free, but careers are built,” Ajao said.
She also made it clear that the criticism would not stop her from pursuing acting.
“Cinema or no cinema, I’m not stopping anytime soon,” she added.
The exchange has sparked fresh debate among Nollywood followers about acting standards, the role of film critics and how actors respond to public criticism.
