Prada opened Milan Fashion Week on Tuesday, September 22, with a Spring/Summer 2027 collection that put one garment firmly in the spotlight: the skirt.
Creative directors Miuccia Prada and Raf Simons presented 63 looks built around skirts, with the collection largely avoiding trousers and dresses. The designs ranged from grey pleated styles and straight green skirts to floral mini skirts, leather pieces and embellished designs.
Some of the skirts were paired with leather coats, knitwear and bralettes, while others featured floral embellishments and layered textures, giving the collection a mix of femininity, sensuality and experimentation.
The show attracted several Hollywood stars, including Naomi Watts, Michelle Williams and Uma Thurman, who watched from the front row.
For Prada, the focus on skirts was also a reflection of Miuccia Prada’s long-standing relationship with the garment. The designer has previously described the skirt as a versatile piece that allows for contrast and creative expression.
The show marked the beginning of Milan’s Spring/Summer 2027 fashion season, which runs from September 22 to 28 and will feature major houses including Fendi, Gucci, Bottega Veneta and Dolce & Gabbana.
As Milan Fashion Week gets underway, Prada’s decision to make the skirt the star has already established one of the season’s most talked-about fashion statements.
