Beyoncé and Kelly Rowland have officially opened the Knowles-Rowland House, a supportive housing development in Houston, Texas, created to help people experiencing chronic homelessness.
The grand opening took place on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, marking a major milestone for the project, which transforms a former youth centre into permanent housing for residents in need.
Beyoncé and Rowland were joined by Tina Knowles, Beyoncé’s daughters Blue Ivy and Rumi, at the opening of the facility named after the two former Destiny’s Child bandmates.
Located in Houston’s Midtown area, the Knowles-Rowland House provides 31 permanent supportive housing units, including 16 designed to accommodate residents with mobility or sensory impairments.
Beyond providing accommodation, the development is designed to connect residents with essential support services, including mental health counselling, substance-use treatment, case management, life-skills training and nutrition assistance.
The project builds on the pair’s longstanding commitment to their hometown. The building originally opened in 1999 as the Knowles-Rowland Center for Youth, with funding generated from Destiny’s Child’s early success. It was later damaged by Hurricane Harvey in 2017 and a fire in 2021 before being repurposed for housing.
The development is supported by Houston nonprofit Bread of Life and its partner, Temenos Community Development Corporation. Funding and housing support arrangements include public and private investment, with rents subsidised through the Houston Housing Authority’s voucher programme.
The opening represents a new chapter for the site, turning a former community youth centre into a housing development intended to offer residents stability, access to services and a pathway towards long-term independence.
