Nigerian comedian and actor Ayo Makun, popularly known as AY, has apologised to fans who were disappointed by a disrupted show in Cardiff, Wales, and offered to return for a free performance at his own expense.
The comedian addressed the controversy in a statement posted on his official X account, saying he understood the criticism but wanted the public to hear his side of the incident.
AY said he had spent more than 20 years entertaining fans and felt hurt that one incident had overshadowed his years of work.
Explaining his decision, the comedian said he had experienced repeated broken payment promises during his tour and sometimes paid colleagues from his own pocket. He added that a five-hour drive from Sheffield to Cardiff had left him at his limit.
However, he acknowledged that the fans who had waited for the show were not responsible for the challenges he faced.
“For your disappointment, wasted time and the upset you experienced, I am sincerely sorry,” he said.
AY also urged those who had shared criticism of the incident to give his response similar attention, saying the public deserved to hear his explanation before reaching a conclusion.
He said he would learn from the experience but insisted that calls to cancel him would not end his commitment to entertainment.
As part of his response, the comedian offered to stage a free show in Cardiff at his own expense, subject to confirmation of the venue and other arrangements.
He clarified that the proposed performance would not replace any refunds owed to people who paid for the original event.
“Everyone doesn't have to make me their favourite or support my shows. I respect that choice,” he said, while thanking those who had supported him and offered constructive criticism.
The comedian ended his statement with a message of resolve: “I still have laughter to share and people to show up for. The show goes on.”
