A Federal Government vocational training programme has begun producing young entrepreneurs, with some beneficiaries already securing customers before completing their courses.

One of the trainees, Joy Genesis, said she had started receiving orders for wedding and birthday cakes after undergoing training under the Innovation Development for Effective Acquisition of Skills (IDEAS) Project.

The programme has equipped 38 federal and state technical colleges with facilities to provide free technical and vocational training to young Nigerians.

National Project Coordinator of the IDEAS Project, Blessing Ehi Ogwu, disclosed this during an inspection of the project centre at the Federal Science and Technical College, Orozo, Abuja.

The National Project Monitoring Officer in the Federal Ministry of Education, Olatunji Odewunmi, said participants would receive training materials, monthly stipends and starter packs after completing their courses.

He stressed that the programme was entirely free, adding that the support was designed to help beneficiaries establish businesses and become self-reliant.

The Principal of FSTC Orozo, Stella Uhuegbu, said the college had adopted a training structure comprising 70 per cent practical sessions and 30 per cent theory, in line with the revised Technical and Vocational Education and Training curriculum.

The IDEAS Project is expected to widen access to vocational education, equip young Nigerians with employable skills and address youth unemployment.
