The competition, held on October 14 and 15 at the Oriental Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos, challenged students from Nigerian universities to identify national problems and develop practical solutions using strategic risk management principles.

President and Chairman of Council of the institute, Kevin Ugwuoke, said the initiative was aimed at promoting risk awareness and strategic thinking among young Nigerians.

He said the country needed a new generation of professionals capable of anticipating uncertainty, making informed decisions and turning risks into opportunities for sustainable development.

According to the institute, finalists were assessed on their understanding of risk management, depth of analysis, innovation, feasibility, presentation and supporting evidence during a pitching session before industry professionals.

The institute said the competition was designed to bridge the gap between academic learning and professional practice while preparing students to respond to economic reforms, technological changes and global uncertainties.

Beyond the cash prizes, all participants will receive certificates and automatic free membership of the institute, giving them access to professional development opportunities.

The institute also said eligible teams could apply for the 2027 Spencer-RIMS Student Risk Management Challenge, with the top eight teams expected to advance to RISKWORLD in New Orleans, United States.
