God Is Good Mobility (GIGM) says it is committed to creating employment opportunities for young people, supporting youth empowerment and strengthening community development.
The Chief Executive Officer of GIGM, Dr Enahoro Okhae, said this Gwagwalada, FCT, on Tuesday during the inauguration of the company’s 40th terminal.
Okhae said that the investment was aimed at bringing transportation and logistics services closer to Gwagwalada residents while contributing to the local economy.
He said the company would employ people from the host community, adding that the facility was intended to serve the people of Gwagwalada beyond its immediate business operations.
“The facility is not ours alone; it is for the community and the people of Gwagwalada. If it is going to remain beautiful and serve the people, the community must own it,” he said.
He said the company would continue to invest in the environment, provide employment opportunities that would enable residents to earn income and support their families.
The GIGM boss also said was offering a 20 per cent travel discount for National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members on domestic trips.
He said it was part of the company’s corporate social responsibility commitment to youths.
He said the initiative was informed by the economic difficulties facing young Nigerians, particularly corps members who often had to travel to different parts of the country for their national service.
“Things are a bit tough in the country, and disposable income is challenging. So it is only logical to recognise that young people today are facing similar challenges,” he said.
Okhae said the company operated a youth entrepreneurship initiative, known as GIGM Ambassadors, for two years, through which young Nigerians could earn 10 per cent commission on tickets sold using its mobile application.
He said the initiative was designed to enable young people, including those without formal employment, to generate income through technology.
“We have a scheme that helps young people either to save money or make money. Our commitment is to be part of the growth and development of young people in this country,” he said.
He added that the company, which operates in Nigeria and Ghana, was preparing to expand into Cote d’Ivoire in 2027.
Uche Amaku, Assistant Corps Commander and Unit Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Gwagwalada, described the new terminal as a welcome development for the area.
Amaku said that Gwagwalada served as a gateway to the FCT for travellers from different parts of the country.
Amaku commended the company’s collaboration with the FRSC, particularly its approach to separating passenger transportation from goods delivery.
He said the arrangement aligned with the corps’ efforts to address overloading and misloading, which remained major road safety concerns.
“The FRSC is committed to partnering with GIGM in staff training and safety measures because we recognise its commitment to road safety,” he said.
Also speaking, the Divisional Crime Officer, Gwagwalada, CSP Bilikisu Shuaib, said the expansion would strengthen access to mobility and logistics services in the area.
Shuaib, who described herself as a customer of the company, commended its technology-driven booking and delivery services.
She assured the company of the continued support of the police and other security agencies, stressing that security was a collective responsibility requiring cooperation between businesses and host communities.
The Waziri of Gwagwalada, Malam Bala Madaki, welcomed the investment but urged the company to sustain engagement with community leaders and security agencies.
Madaki emphasised the need for effective communication and consistency in fulfilling commitments made to the host community.
