NBC To Inaugurate Digitisation Campaign On June 5

National Broadcasting Commission of Nigeria (NBC) said it would inaugurate its digitisation campaign in Jos on June 5.

Alhaji Awwalu Salihu, head, Public Affairs of the commission said that `` we were in Jos to brainstorm on the date for the inauguration of digitisation campaign with the stakeholders in broadcasting industry.  We all agreed at the end of the day on June 5 for the event,” he said.

Salihu told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja that it was the main decision that had been taken so far in respect of the switch over from analogue to digital in Jos.

According to him, all hands are on deck to ensure the success of the occasion.

He said that inauguration subcommittees had been set up, adding: “We are already having meetings for a successful exercise.”

He said that immediately after the inauguration, publicity would begin in earnest while other activities necessary for the digitisation would also follow.

`` We are already working out who is going to be signal distributor and who is going to be responsible for the set-up boxes.

``The moment the inauguration is done in Jos, we will replicate same to other parts of the country latest June 30.”

He said that no state would be ahead of other, assuring that the switch would be done simultaneously nationwide.

He expressed optimism that with the good work going on in Jos, replicating same in other parts of the country would not be a problem to the commission.

Salihu said that the NBC did not envisage any problem, adding that if any arose, it would be addressed adequately.

It would be recalled that Emeka Mba, director-general, NBC, said the Commission chose Jos as the pilot city for the switch over from analogue to Digital Terrestrial Transmission in January 2015.

He explained that the choice was because it was “compact enough and accessible enough to enable the NBC to carry out all its tests and surveys successfully”.

Mba added that the city had the complete compliments of broadcasting stations - Federal Government-owned, state government-owned and privately-owned terrestrial and satellite-based channels.
