An angry mob has set a Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) bus ablaze and assaulted its driver after he allegedly crushed a motorcyclist to death along the BRT lane at Ogolonto bus stop in Ikorodu, Lagos.
According to reports, the motorcyclist was riding alone on the restricted BRT lane when the incident occurred.
Following the reported death, angry residents and passers-by allegedly descended on the bus driver, assaulting him before setting the vehicle on fire.
Police officers and operatives of the Lagos Neighbourhood Safety Corps (LNSC) reportedly intervened and rescued the driver from the mob. The driver was said to have escaped without injuries.
The incident has renewed concerns about mob violence and the destruction of public property following road accidents.
While the reported death of the motorcyclist is tragic, mob justice can endanger more lives and worsen an already distressing situation. The incident also highlights the importance of road safety and compliance with restrictions on BRT corridors.
Further details surrounding the incident will be reported.
