FG to empower 5000 youth in tomato processing

FG to empower 5000 youth in tomato processing

A firm based in Lagos is working  with the Federal Government to organize a tomato training programme for the youth as a part of the effort of the government to empower the youth and reduce unemployment.


The empowerment programme which is expected to accommodate about 500 youth is also poised to increase food availability in the country and turn Nigeria into a tomato cultivation and processing center.

Speaking during a day training/workshop organized by his organization, the organizer of the programme, Mr. Duro Kuteyi pointed out that small tomato processing will reduce post harvest wastages and create jobs, adding that the sector is poised for different levels of growths and a favorable government policies.

In his own words:

"We have developed a concept to make Nigerians understand that they don’t need big equipment to start processing tomatoes, and it is something you can process in your kitchen”

Speaking further at the event, Kuteyi hailed the farmers for their contributions and urged them to continue to apply new techniques in order to improve productivity.
