EDO ASSEMBLY SUSPEND DEPUTY SPEAKER AND THREE OTHER LEGISLATORS

The suspension order, came under order 38 rules 3, of the House Rules, by the speaker of the State Assembly Hon Uyi Igbe, which alleged issue of gross misconduct on the legislators following weeks of their decamping from APC to the opposition party, the PDP.
At todays plenary a motion of suspension was moved under matters of public importance by member representing Egor constituency Paul Ohonbamu and seconded by the majority leader Philip Shaibu.
It was pot pourri of dramatic turn of event when interest group suspected to be loyalists of the All Progressive Congress (APC) storm the Edo Assembly demanding for the suspension of four legislators who had earlier defected to the PDP. The legislators were alleged to have sold out by collecting the sum of 70 million naira to decamp and plot the impeachment of Governor Adams Oshiomole. This however did not go down well with some of the legislators loyal to the governor, while some youth who saw this as an affront protested to the assembly.

The speaker Hon Uyi Igbe and the Chairman House Committee on Information Hon Kabiru Adjoto, however addressing the protesters told them that the four legislators has been suspended.
Edo Police Commissioner Adebanjo Folunsho, who was present at the occasion to quell situation when the lives of four legislators were under threat appeal to the protesters to be calm and be civil.
Others also suspended are Hon Jude Ise-Idehen, Friday Ogieriahkhi, and Patrick Osayiwen. Meanwhile Police detachment was deployed round the assembly to maintain peace.
