NUT Holds Prayers For Abducted Girls

Nigerian Union of Teachers, an affiliate of the Nigeria Labour Congress, on Thursday embarked on prayers for divine intervention and demanded the immediate release of the over 230 abducted female students of Government Secondary School, Chibok in Borno State.

They also called on Nigerians to hold fervent prayers for the release of the girls that have been held captive for more than one month.

The Chairman of NUT in the Federal Capital Territory, Mr. Hassan Jibir, who spoke during the “Bring Back our Girls” rally staged at Zone 7 in Abuja, said that teachers were worried that the young girls kidnapped were handed over to them in trust.

But the directive by NUT national body for the closure of all schools nationwide to protest the abduction was partially observed in FCT.

Hassan Jibir, who said the teachers share in the pains and trauma of the parents of the girls stated that the protest was in solidarity with families of the abducted girls in Chibok and the slain teachers.

“The abduction of the girls is very painful; the girls are the ones facing the shock of the insurgencies. Unfortunately, Nigerians are not happy likewise the international community.

“The protest is a way of demonstrating our position and feelings that we are demanding for the release of these girls; to have them available in schools for the teachers to teach them the curriculum that has been provided,” he stressed.

According to him, the protest was also in line with the international community to ensure that the girls were rescued, safe and alive.

Hassan Jibir called on the military and the international security agencies to be careful in carrying out their rescue operations in order not to lose any of the girls.
