The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, today arrested the former governor of Bayelsa State, Timipre Sylva following his refusal to honour invitations to answer charges over allegations of fraud running into billions of Naira. The offence is said to have been committed while he served as the governor of the state, he was picked up at his home in Abuja No.

Nasarawa State Governor, Tanko Al-Makura, and his counterpart in Benue, Gabriel Suswan, on Thursday briefed the Presidency on the precarious security situation in their states. While Al-Makura briefed Vice-President Namadi Sambo on the killing of over 20 policemen by members of a cult group in Alakyo Village, about 10 kilometres from Lafia, the state capital, on Wednesday, Suswan filed a report on the clashes between Fulani cattle rearers and farmers with a casualty figure which he described as high and including women and children.

The central Bank of Nigeria has declared that it has recovered about six billion naira from commercial banks arising from its consumers protection department established by the apex bank. The Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria Tunde Lemo who disclosed this in Abeokuta during a presentation to ogun state government on Cashless Nigeria: the Journey so far stated that as from june 1st 2013 the apex bank would place an embargo on third party cheaques across the counters in all the commercial banks across the country.

Ahead of 2015 General Election, Leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party in Nigeria have been warned against imposition of candidates for the party to retain it position as the ruling party in the country. Correspondent Kunle ojo reports that the National Auditor of the Party, Adewole Adeyanju who made the appeal in Ilaro said the party leaders must evolve internal democracy that would create a level playing ground for all contestants.

A Nigerian Air Force Alpha jet deployed to operations in Mali Monday crashed in Niger Republic, resulting in the death of the two pilots, a statement by the Defence Headquarters (DHQ) said. The jet was said to have crashed at 1.05 pm, 60 kilometres west of Niamey, the Nigerien capital.
