Troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA Intercept, Capture Fleeing Bandits in Kaduna
Troops from Sector 1 of the Joint Task Force North West Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have recorded major gains against bandits and terrorists across Kaduna State. In a series of coordinated operations between June 20 and 21, they disrupted criminal activities, recovered stolen livestock, arrested suspects, and restored order in volatile communities. The Theatre Commander praised the vigilance and discipline of the troops, saying the successes show the Force’s resolve to chase down criminal networks wherever they operate.
On June 20, the troops acted on intelligence about cattle rustling in a Kaduna community. They caught up with fleeing criminals and engaged them in a firefight, killing two suspected bandits. The operation led to the recovery of weapons, ammunition, and the stolen livestock. Unfortunately, one civilian died during the incident, a casualty of the bandits’ actions. The swift response stopped the rustling operation and returned the animals to their owners.
Later that same night, a patrol intercepted two more suspected bandits. A search of their phones revealed digital materials linking them to terrorist and bandit activities. Both men are now in custody and undergoing further investigation. Then on June 21, troops on a fighting patrol pursued armed criminals who ran into the bush. The chase ended with the arrest of two suspected bandit scouts and the recovery of motorcycles and communication devices containing incriminating evidence.
In a separate incident on June 21, troops also quelled civil unrest at Mararraba community. Tension boiled over after a mob killed a female suspect accused of child trafficking, then tried to attack public buildings and block a major highway. Security forces arrived quickly, dispersed the crowd, secured critical facilities, and kept traffic moving. Their visible presence prevented further breakdown of public order.
The Theatre Commander assured Kaduna residents that these offensive and intelligence-driven operations will continue. He said the goal is to further degrade bandit and terrorist networks and make the region safer. With more arrests, weapons, and rustled livestock recovered, Operation FANSAN YAMMA says it remains committed to restoring lasting peace across the North West.
