The Federal Government is seeking greater investment from US technology and financial services companies in Nigeria’s digital infrastructure, including cloud computing and artificial intelligence.

The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) held talks with a delegation from the US Chamber of Commerce on Tuesday to explore opportunities for collaboration in the country’s digital economy.

Representatives of Microsoft, Citi, Cavista Holdings, Flutterwave, Tolaram Group, the American Business Council and the US Embassy attended the meeting, which focused on digital transformation, data governance, digital sovereignty and investment in technology infrastructure.

NITDA Director-General Kashifu Inuwa said Nigeria’s digital policies were intended to protect national interests while encouraging innovation, investment and sustainable economic growth.

He stressed the need to strengthen local infrastructure, develop domestic technical capacity and build a resilient digital ecosystem that would reduce dependence on individual technology providers.

Inuwa also highlighted the role of public-private partnerships in developing Nigeria’s sovereign cloud ecosystem, saying clear policy frameworks and data classification could help attract investment and expand local opportunities.

He said these efforts could position Nigeria as a digital hub for West and Central Africa.

Both sides expressed a commitment to continued engagement towards creating a secure and predictable regulatory environment that supports business growth, job creation, skills development and cross-border investment.
