Guinea-Bissau handed Nigeria a 3-0 defeat in their Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying encounter at the 24 de Setembro National Stadium in Bissau on Tuesday.
Álvaro Djaló scored in stoppage time to complete the hosts’ victory after Franculino Djú and Mama Baldé had struck in either half.
Djú opened the scoring in the 15th minute, receiving a pass from Renato Nhaga before driving into the box and beating Nigeria goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali with a left-footed shot.
Nigeria attempted to respond, with Alex Iwobi setting up Ademola Lookman but Guinea-Bissau goalkeeper Embadjé saved the midfielder’s effort.
Frank Onyeka also had opportunities to equalise, while Nwabali made important saves to prevent the hosts from extending their lead before half-time.
Nigeria introduced Moses Usor for Onyeka at the break and created chances after the restart. Usor and Moses Simon tested Embadjé, while Akor Adams had a headed effort saved in the 58th minute.
However, Guinea-Bissau doubled their advantage in the 65th minute when Mama Baldé converted a low shot after Mamadi Camará created the opportunity.
Nwabali denied Baldé another chance in the 52nd minute, while Nigeria continued to search for a breakthrough.
Nigeria brought on Raphael Onyedika and George Ilenikhena for Wilfred Ndidi and Adams in the 75th minute as the visitors sought to reduce the deficit.
Ilenikhena came close in the 85th minute, but Embadjé saved his low shot from the right side of the box.
Guinea-Bissau made further changes, with Djaló and Tamble Monteiro replacing Beto and Djú in the 79th minute.
The pair combined to seal the result in stoppage time. Monteiro supplied a through ball for Djaló, who struck with his right foot from the centre of the box to make it 3-0.
The result gave Guinea-Bissau a commanding win over the Super Eagles in the qualifying campaign.
