Costa Gets Three-Match Ban While Gabriel Escapes Punishment

Diego Costa has been given a three-game ban by the Football Association for his clash with Arsenal defender Laurent Koscielny on Saturday.

The Spaniard initially escaped punishment for his tussle with the Frenchman in the first half of Saturday’s Premier League clash at Stamford Bridge.

However, Costa was subsequently charged by the FA after the incident, which was missed by referee Mike Dean, although it was caught on video.

The FA announced the decision in a statement released on Tuesday night.

The statement reads below:

“An FA charge against Diego Costa for violent conduct not seen by the match officials but caught on video has been found proven following an Independent Regulatory Commission hearing.

“The Chelsea forward will, therefore, serve the standard penalty of a three-match suspension with immediate effect.

“The charge, which the player denied, was in relation to an incident involving Arsenal’s Laurent Koscielny in the 43rd minute of the game on Saturday.”

Meanwhile, Arsenal defender Gabriel Paulista has had his red card rescinded upon appeal, thereby escaping an automatic three-match ban for a straight red card.

"However, Gabriel could still face a ban or fine on a separate FA charge of improper conduct after refusing to leave the pitch after being sent off. He has until 6pm on Thursday to respond."
