Super Eagles forward Moses Usor was absent through injury as LASK suffered a 6-3 defeat to Liverpool at the Raiffeisen Arena on Wednesday.

Usor was left out of LASK’s 20-man matchday squad after sustaining a shoulder injury on his return from international duty. The forward had been forced off 12 minutes after coming on as a substitute against Rapid Vienna.

LASK coach Dietmar Kühbauer confirmed the problem earlier in the week, saying, “With Mo, it’s the shoulder joint that is a bit injured.”

The Nigerian has been an important contributor to LASK’s attack this season, recording two goals and three assists in eight appearances. His three assists made him the club’s leading provider in that category.

His absence coincided with a difficult night for the Austrian side, who conceded six goals against the English visitors. Florian Flecker scored twice late in the match, while another goal from Ljubičić helped LASK reduce the deficit.

Usor, who scored on his Nigeria debut against Madagascar last month, has yet to receive a confirmed return date from the club.

There was also Nigerian-related interest in Liverpool’s travelling party, with 18-year-old winger Rio Ngumoha, who has Nigerian and Guadeloupean heritage, included in the squad. Joshua Sonni-Lambie, also 18 and eligible to represent Spain, Nigeria and England, received his first competitive first-team call-up.

Elsewhere, Aston Villa recorded a 6-0 victory over Fenerbahçe at Villa Park, with Tammy Abraham scoring late in the match.
