Former Kaduna State Governor Mukhtar Yero and ex-Senator Shehu Sani are among 33 candidates cleared by the Independent National Electoral Commission to contest the three senatorial seats in Kaduna State in the January 2027 National Assembly elections.
The final list published by INEC on Sunday showed that 12 candidates would contest Kaduna North, 13 Kaduna Central and eight Kaduna South.
Yero, who governed Kaduna State, is contesting the Kaduna North seat on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, while former senator Shehu Sani is the APC candidate for Kaduna Central.
Sani, who previously represented Kaduna Central in the Senate, will face incumbent Senator Lawal Adamu Usman of the African Democratic Congress, who is seeking re-election.
In Kaduna North, Yero will contest against the incumbent Senator Khalid Ibrahim Mustapha of the ADC, alongside candidates from the ADP, APGA, APM, Labour Party, NDC, PDP, PRP, SDP, YPP and YP.
The candidates are Idris Yahaya of the ADP, Khalid Ibrahim Mustapha of the ADC, Yero Mukhtar Ramalan of the APC, Adamu Rabiu of APGA, Ibrahim Kabiru of the APM, Aliyu Abdu Gubuchil of the Labour Party, Sha’aban Mohammad Turad of the NDC, Ahmed Abdullahi Zubairu of the PDP, Ahmad Abdullahi Wakili of the PRP, Adamu Rabiu of the SDP, Jennifer Agbaje of the YPP and Zuntu Suleiman Mohammed of the YP.
In Kaduna Central, the candidates are Badamasi Hafsat of the ADP, Lawal Adamu Usman of the ADC, Sani Shehu of the APC, Usman Lawal of APGA, Jatau Aliyu Suleiman of the APM, Danbaki Yusuf Solomon of the Labour Party, Ibrahim Mohammed Sani of the NDP, Bala Daniel Joji of the NNPP, Adamu Haruna of the NDC, Ibrahim Usman of the PDP, Suleiman Munir Babangida of the PRP, Salisu Suleiman of the SDP and Sani Yaya of the YPP.
In Kaduna South, incumbent Senator Marshall Sunday Katung of the APC is seeking another term.
Katung will face Godfrey Ali Gaiya of the ADC, Abel Yashim Solomon of the ADP, Sa’ad Abubakar of the APM, Dauda Philibus of the NNPP, Gumbari Joseph Mataimaki of the PDP, Laura Yimi Lucas of the SDP and Adeyemi Adebowale Abdulzeez of the Zenith Labour Party.
The final list, signed by INEC Secretary Rose Oriaran-Anthony, contains the candidates’ names, political parties, ages, genders and listed qualifications.
The publication formally confirms the candidates cleared by the electoral commission for the Kaduna North, Kaduna Central and Kaduna South senatorial elections scheduled for January 2027.
