Troops Repel Terrorist Attack, Recover Stolen Military Rifle at NIPSS, Kuru

Troops of Sector 6, Joint Task Force Operation ENDURING PEACE, repelled an a terrorist attack at the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies, NIPSS, in Kuru, Jos South Local Government Area, Plateau State, in the early hours of Thursday, 2 July. At about 12:10a.m., armed bandits attempted to infiltrate the Institute’s perimeter under darkness but were engaged by alert soldiers in a firefight.

The exchange resulted in one assailant being neutralized, while the others escaped with gunshot wounds. No Nigerian Army troops were injured or killed. After the clash, soldiers recovered an AK-pattern rifle, Reg. No. CO-3175, loaded with 16 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition from the dead attacker.

Investigations showed the recovered rifle belonged to a Nigerian Army soldier, who was killed in an earlier militia encounter at the Federal College of Land Resources Technology, Vom, on 11 April 2026. The weapon is now in military custody as investigators probe possible connections to other attacks in the Kuru-Vom axis. The body of the neutralised assailant was evacuated to the mortuary by the appropriate authorities.

Following the incident, troops increased area domination patrols, clearance operations, and active pursuit around NIPSS, Kuru, and adjoining communities. The objective is to deny criminal groups freedom of movement and protect residents, staff, and critical national assets. Authorities say the situation is under control and normal activities at the Institute continued uninterrupted.
