Barrister Alow Ejimakor has called on Anambra State Governor Chukwuma Soludo and his predecessor, Peter Obi, to end their feud.
The feud, which began in 2022, took a new turn when the Anambra State Commissioner for Finance stated that the state is still servicing loans and debts incurred by the Obi administration.
Obi rejected this, denying he owed any salary by the time his tenure ended.
He said, “As at the day I left office, I was not owing any salary, pension, or gratuity that Anambra State Government is supposed to pay.
“I was not owing any supplier or contractor that had executed his job and his documents processed, not one.
“The day I left office, I paid what was due to be paid. I wasn’t owing any contractors.”
In response, the state revealed that the Obi administration spent about $4.05 billion (equivalent to N5.4 trillion at the current exchange rate) in eight years and also contracted US$123.77 billion in external debt alone, for which it has so far paid billions of naira in service payments.
The state said it converted the audited and published expenditures using the average official exchange rates over the eight years of Obi's administration, and they total about US$4.05 billion.
The state also lamented the poverty level Anambra citizens experienced during Obi's eight years in office.
With the back-and-forth between Soludo's administration and Obi, Ejimakor warned that they stand to gain nothing from the feud.
He shared on X, "Soludo and Obi should stop this feud. The Igbos egging them on, should also stop. The feud does no political good for either of them or for Ndigbo. And it won’t have any impact on who wins or loses the 2027 presidential election. Instead, it distracts one from governance and the other from facing his campaign."
