The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for Ibadan North-East State Constituency II, Hammed Taoreed Ademola, and an Accord aspirant, Adedapo Ojo, have abandoned their respective platforms and joined the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State ahead of the 2027 elections.
The duo led hundreds of supporters to the APC at a ceremony held along Old Ife Road, Ibadan, on Friday. Other reports put the number of defectors at more than 3,000.
Ademola, popularly known as Lucky, said his decision to leave the PDP followed his assessment of the political situation in the state.
“I did my due diligence and I came to realise that any ticket outside the APC is a mere tissue paper which cannot take a candidate anywhere in 2027,” he said.
He added that the defectors had formally joined the APC and would work for the party.
Ojo, who previously sought the Accord ticket for the same constituency, also said he had abandoned the party after concluding that it lacked the political strength he expected.
“We wasted our time, energy and resources on an unproductive exercise. We later realised it wasn’t worth it,” he said.
Receiving the new members, Oyo APC chairman, Moses Alake-Adeyemo, assured them of equal opportunities within the party.
He urged the defectors to work towards the success of APC candidates in the 2027 elections.
The party’s governorship candidate, Senator Sharafadeen Alli, also pledged an inclusive administration if elected, promising fairness to all zones of the state.
Alli said his administration would prioritise workers’ welfare, infrastructure, healthcare and skills development, including plans for ICT hubs across the state.
The defections add to political realignments in Oyo ahead of the 2027 general elections, with the affected politicians moving from the PDP and Accord into the APC.
