A Federal High Court in Osogbo on Wednesday affirmed Senator Ademola Adeleke as the authentic candidate of the People’s Democratic Party in the July 16 governorship election.
Prince Dotun Babayemi, a factional candidate of a group within the party had approached the court to declare the governorship primary conducted by the group as authentic and affirm his candidature.
Delivering the judgment, the presiding judge, Justice Nathaniel Ayo-Emmanuel, said Dotun Babayemi failed to participate in the primary election as he declared Adeleke as the authentic candidate.
Justice Emmanuel, who maintained that the court cannot pick candidates for any political party, also added that it was an internal party issue and therefore the matter was dismissed.
Counsel to the People's Democratic party, Ashim Abioye and Counsel to Ademola Adeleke, Oluwole Bada said the judgment is a victory for the party.
Addressing journalists shortly after the court has set, the plaintiff, Prince Dotun Babayemi promised that his next action and decision will be in the best interest of the people and the party.
