Presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has commended the Sheikh Muhammad Sambo Memorial Islamic Institute in Rigachikun, Kaduna State, for combining Islamic education with Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics.
Obi made the remarks during a visit to the institute at the weekend, shortly after returning to Nigeria from London. He said he had visited the school twice previously and supported it in his personal capacity.
The former Anambra State governor said he was impressed by the progress recorded by the institution, particularly its approach to integrating Islamic education with STEM subjects.
Obi said investment in education and healthcare remained central to national development, alongside efforts to develop human capital and create opportunities for Nigerians.
He added that Nigerians should have a sense of belonging regardless of their religion, ethnicity, region or political affiliation.
After the visit, Obi joined his running mate, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, and other NDC candidates for a town hall meeting in Kaduna.
According to Obi, the engagement provided an opportunity for the party's presidential team to listen to residents and discuss issues including insecurity, poverty, healthcare, education and the economy.
The Kaduna meeting was part of a series of engagements by the party with citizens, following a similar town hall meeting in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
