Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, has reaffirmed the Judiciary’s commitment to the fair, impartial and timely administration of justice as Nigeria marks its 66th Independence Anniversary.
Kekere-Ekun, in her Independence Day goodwill message, said public confidence in the justice system depended on the integrity, independence and humanity with which justice was administered.
She described the Judiciary as an essential pillar of constitutional democracy and a guardian of the rule of law, stressing its important role in Nigeria’s national development.
The CJN also urged Nigerians to value their common national identity and approach their differences with understanding, tolerance and a commitment to the greater good.
She acknowledged the challenges that had shaped Nigeria’s history, saying the country’s journey had been marked by periods of difficulty and uncertainty as well as resilience, creativity and faith in its future.
According to her, Nigeria’s diversity should be a source of strength rather than division when guided by mutual respect and a shared sense of purpose.
Kekere-Ekun also urged Nigerians to remember those who had made sacrifices in different areas of national service to preserve the country’s freedom and sustain democracy.
She called on citizens to honour their contributions by playing their part in building a stronger, fairer and more united Nigeria for future generations.
The CJN said the Judiciary would continue to play its role in the national effort by ensuring that justice was administered without fear or favour.
