Herdsmen attack: Governor urges calmness

Despite the consistent herdsmen attack melted on some communities in Delta state, the state governor Ifeanyi  Okowa  has called for calm in the affected areas of the state.

Governor Okowa called on the people of Ohoror community in Ughelli north local government area of Delta state to maintain the existing peace, while he claimed the issue of herdsmen attack was not peculiar to the state alone.

He made the remarks during a brief stop-over at the community where youths and women were protesting with placards of different inscriptions, calling on herdsmen to vacate the community.

Community women who went topless and placards carrying youths welcomed the governor and the state police commissioner, Zanna Ibrahim, while they (resident) continued chanting song, calling on herdsmen to vacate their community.

Addressing the gathering after the protesters were calmed down by security agents, the governor spoke on the menace of herdsmen as community leaders blame the state government for being insensitive to their plight.

In restoring peace in the community, governor Okowa said intelligence gathering will help flush out killer herdsmen in the community.

It will be recalled that community residents have twice barricaded the Warri to Ughelli expressway calling on herdsmen to vacate their community over alleged killings and raping of their women by Fulani herdsmen.
