Former Governor Ayo Fayose of Ekiti State has continued to fret over the increasing populism of Peter Obi, presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, in the buildup to the 2027 general elections.

Fayose had at different times admitted that only Peter Obi, among all the presidential candidates in the country, can challenge President Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in the 2027 presidential election. Fayose, however, after being offered board appointment by President Tinubu, resorted to propaganda war against Obi. The former governor asserted that Obi lost his chances for the 2027 presidency the day he left the ADC.

Fayose was of the view that the ADC provided Obi with the structure that powered his 2023 campaign, noting that leaving the party was a political miscalculation.
