Bayelsa: Gunmen Attack Home Of APC Chieftian, One Killed

Gunmen in the early hours of Monday invaded the home of an All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain in Bayelsa State, killing one person in the ensuing shoot out.

The deceased, who is believed  to be about 18 years of age, was gunned down in front of the house of Mr. Godwin Sidi, a former youth leader of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) in the South-south geo-political zone.

Although it could not be confirmed if the target was Sidi or someone else, the victim was said to have been trying to enter Sidi’s home when he was killed.

When contacted, Sidi popularly known as Godsidi, expressed concern over the incident and alleged that the gun battle was deliberate and he was the target.

According to him, the attack may not be unconnected with  his political affiliation and recent comments against the administration of President Goodluck Jonathan and Governor Seriake Dickson.

It was gathered that a patrol team of the special security outfit known as Door Akpoor arrived to take away the corpse of the deceased.

Sidi said he had pleaded with a trusted family member to move his family to a safe place, “I need to be careful. Even though they claim it is a cult attack. It is a dangerous coincidence. I think this attack is because of my close alliance with the APC and my stand against the faulty policies at the state and national levels.”

The Incident is being investigated.
