Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has urged registered voters to collect and safeguard their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) ahead of the 2027 general election, promising to make life more affordable and improve security if elected president.
Atiku made the appeal in a post on his official X account on Wednesday, October 14, as he criticised the rising cost of living and insecurity under President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate said many Nigerians were struggling to meet basic needs, with parents worried about feeding their children, pensioners facing difficult choices over food and medication, and workers struggling with transport costs, rent and other expenses.
He also expressed concern over persistent insecurity, including kidnapping and attacks, which he said had left families worried about the safety of their loved ones.
“No family should have to face hunger and insecurity at the same time,” Atiku said, warning that the country’s current challenges should not become the future inherited by younger generations.
Calling on registered voters to collect their PVCs, he described the cards as a means for citizens to participate in the democratic process and seek change peacefully.
“If you are a registered voter, please go and collect your PVC. Hold on to it. It is your voice, your choice and your peaceful power to demand change,” he said.
Atiku blamed Tinubu’s administration for the rising cost of living and pledged to reverse the trend if given the mandate to govern.
“Bola made life expensive. I will work to make life affordable again and restore the security every Nigerian deserves,” he said.
The statement forms part of Atiku’s political messaging ahead of the 2027 election, with economic hardship and insecurity emerging as key issues in his criticism of the current administration.
His promise to reduce living costs and improve security is a campaign commitment that voters will be able to assess against the policies and implementation plans he presents as the election approaches.
