Elder Demola Ijabiyi, Chairman of the PBAT Mandate Elders Forum, Ondo State, has dismissed former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar’s call for President Bola Tinubu to leave office in 2027.
Atiku, the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), had on Sept. 24 in Akure urged Nigerians to vote out the Tinubu administration in the 2027 elections.
Ijabiyi, speaking at the forum’s September meeting in Akure on Wednesday, said Tinubu remained on course for re-election, adding that any alliance between Atiku and former Anambra Gov. Peter Obi would not defeat the president.
“Tinubu is going on and marching confidently towards 2031. Nothing can change that.
“Atiku and Obi, even if they combine, they can’t win Tinubu,” he said.
Ijabiyi argued that the APC’s performance in previous elections demonstrated continued support for the party.
“They said that people have rejected us, but they keep voting for us. They keep voting for APC. So where is the rejection?” he asked.
He urged APC members to remain focused on grassroots mobilisation and the campaign for Tinubu’s re-election.
Ijabiyi also appealed to APC leaders in Ondo to avoid division, particularly between Gov. Lucky Aiyedatiwa and the Minister of Interior, Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo.
He said the existence of different political structures was not necessarily evidence of division, provided they remained focused on Tinubu’s re-election.
“There may be different routes, but there must be only one destination: the overwhelming re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” he said.
